Our Philosophy/Values

Albion Coaching has been training, coaching, mentoring and supporting the grassroots Hawkes Bay football community for boys and girls since 2017 and has an impressive track history.

Albion Coaching aims to create an inspirational and visual pathway for players and coaches, to grow and develop through football. We create holistic and nurturing environments where people can increase confidence, establish meaningful connections and be their authentic selves.

Our methodology is not as conventional as the traditional football landscape, and we believe that a positional football and constraints-led approach gives our players a greater understanding of the game and accelerates learning and development. All our training is in context, so plays like a real version of the beautiful game.

Our mission is to help create free-thinking, independent decision makers who feel comfortable expressing themselves on and off the field. Not only in football terms but as valued members of our community.

We help our coaches lead with positivity, confidence and knowledge to enable a supportive, player centric environment which is fun, dynamic and conducive to learning

Methodology

The Albion Coaching methodology encompasses the six key elements of Ball Mastery, Rondos, Tactical, Technical, Positional Game, and Training Game to grow skilful and dynamic footballers with good decision-making abilities.

01
BALL MASTERY

Ball mastery in football refers to a player’s ability to control the ball with precision using various parts of their feet. It involves drills and exercises that enhance ball control, dribbling, and footwork, ultimately improving a player’s overall skill on the ball. We believe ball mastery is critical in the early stages of football

02
RONDO

rondo in football is a training exercise where one group of players aims to keep possession of the ball while completing a series of passes, while a smaller group (sometimes just one player) tries to take possession away. It’s a fun and competitive exercise that sharpens decision-making, passing, movement, and teamwork and all aspects of the game (aside from shooting) are present.

03
TACTICAL

Tactical football refers to a strategic approach that guides a team’s actions on the field. It defines how players position themselves, move, and interact to achieve specific objectives, such as retaining possession, creating scoring chances, or preventing opponents from scoring.

04
TECHNICAL

Technical football focuses on refining individual skills like ball control, passing, and shooting. It equips players with the necessary abilities to handle and manipulate the ball with finesse and precision, enhancing their confidence and control on the field. We believe that these skills can be learned within context of the real game and therefore not required to be trained in isolation.

05
POSITIONAL GAME

Position games in football refer to training drills where players practice specific positions and roles on the field. These exercises help players understand their responsibilities, improve teamwork, and enhance their tactical awareness.

06
TRAINING GAME

Training games in football refer to practice sessions where players engage in simulated match scenarios. These sessions help improve teamwork, tactical understanding, and specific skills by replicating real-game situations. Teams play with at least three units (defence, midfield, attack) so the real game is present and in context.
